| As an engineer, you've probably noticed that while your technical knowledge is essential, at some point your ability to communicate with, motivate, and lead others is necessary to advance your career into management and leadership. Therefore, your long-term success is not just dependent on doing good technical work but also on being able to communicate your results effectively and to work on and lead teams and organizations.
In college, you weren't taught the interpersonal, management, and leadership skills required for a successful, long-term career. So where do you find this critical knowledge?
As an AIAA member, you've probably noticed that there is a scarcity of training classes in management, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills. We're attempting to do something about it, and we'd like your help.
Therefore, we'd like to know what management, leadership, and communication events and/or classes you'd take advantage of if we made them available to you through the San Francisco AIAA chapter.
This short questionnaire (probably 5 minutes max) will provide us with your preferences.
We're considering providing our local membership with two major learning opportunities. The first opportunity is to attend "regular events" on the topics of technical management and leadership, interpersonal-people skills, and communication and motivation skills. These events would be presentations or panel discussions regarding some aspect of these topics, much like many of our current evening meetings. Our second possibility would be to make available for-fee, one-day or multi-day course(s) on these topics. |
