The AMOU is a stakeholder representative that sits on the NMSC (National Marine Safety Committee) panel dealing with the proposed new National Standards for Competencies for Trainee Marine Pilots. The AMOU, and many other professionals, feel this proposal is flawed and, should it become a reality, will have major repercussions on the profession for all Australian mariners - not just that of Pilots.
This alternative path to becoming a pilot is in its final stages of debate before a decision is made on the proposal. The AMOU has been asked to facilitate a survey of Australian Pilots in order to provide an opportunity for those most likely to be impacted by the proposed reform to have a say. This is an opportunity to comment on the NMSC proposal on the new National Standards for Competencies for Trainee Marine Pilots before it is too late. You will find links in the survey to key documents and background commentary from industry sources that will be of interest. Participation in this survey is open to both AMOU members and non-members and we welcome your input. Your identity will be kept strictly confidential.
The results of the survey will provide valuable data for consideration before this proposal is decided. Please note that this survey will remain open until further notice at which time it will be removed from the AMOU website.
Sincerely,
Michael Fleming
