Guide / Leader Liability Insurance Survey
Progress:

Paddle Canada is investigating an option wherein Paddle Canada  qualified Instructors along with non Paddle Canada members (guides/ coaches/ leaders with other credentials) could procure competitive 3rd party liability coverage for your canoe / kayak / coastal kayak / guiding endeavors.

The optional insurance being scoped out in the survey would cover other (not Paddle Canada approved or sanctioned) paddling activities which paddlers may wish to lead.   This may include activities such as leading kayaking and canoeing trips,   coaching outside of the Paddle Canada program,   etc.

The policy if secured would cover your company, employees and volunteers for your exposure of third party liability for the operations outlined. The policy would not cover the trip leaders, volunteers, staff, and or their companies making a claim.  Medical coverage, lost wages, etc. are not covered by this policy.

The policy would not cover vehicles or equipment.

To be viable, the insurance will have to be ‘on-line’ self-serve. The applicant would provide their personal information and current qualifications in paddling, wilderness first aid, and water rescue. They would also fill out a detailed Float Plan. Note that PC credentials / qualifications may help someone get coverage.

When complete, the applicant would submit the application in order to get an immediate on line quotation for the specified trip.  It may be possible to apply for an entire trip / guiding season. The program would then provide a quotation for proposed trip / season, and any additional terms and conditions. The applicant would agree to the terms, conditions, and rate; and would then submit for final underwriting approval.

This possible program is at the research level, and we are currently accessing the interest to measure the number of people who would purchase this product and therefore the viability of a long-term program.  The more interest from all paddlesports industry people the better. Please fill out the following questionnaire so we can take a look at the possibilities for this value added service to our members.
