NEW Leadership™ New York (NLNY) is a fully funded, intensive, one-week residential program to educate college women about the political process and teach them to become effective leaders.  In partnership with with Rutger's Center for American Women and Politics, NLNY, the only program of its kind in New York State, is administred by Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS), Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, University at Albany, State University of New York.   NLNY is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for effective political engagement and community organizing. 
 

 

 

Program
Participants will take part in training sessions, experiential workshops and fieldtrips to help them explore and develop their own leadership style.  Students will receive an introduction to women's history, New York State politics and policymaking, campaign and community organizing, ally building and advocacy skills. Networking and mentoring opportunities and special events will take place throughout the week. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program and have an opportunity to compete for mini grant awards to implement a program that serves youth on their home campus or in their community.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

      Eligibility

NLNY is open to:

All undergraduate students enrolled in any New York State college or university and

All New York State residents who are enrolled in out-of-state schools.

 

All applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 to be considered.

 

All applicants must have a demonstrated interest and experience in developing leadership skills with professional and academic references

 

Applicants must submit an official copy of their undergraduate transcripts, and a current resume, if available.

 

CWGCS strongly encourages women from diverse backgrounds-including women of color, LGBTQ women, first generation college students, and returning and international students-to apply to the NEW Leadership™ New York program. (Some scholarship funding has been designated for specific categories by the donors.)
