City of Decatur Illinois Police Building Survey
The Decatur Police Department has outgrown its current space at the Law Enforcement Center in Downtown Decatur. The Department is in need of approximately 60,000  square feet of new space to meet critical policing needs to help serve and protect our community in the years to come. The cost of needed space is estimated to be between $15 and $17 million and the City is asking for community input on proposed methods for funding a new facility. Please provide your feedback below. Which of the options listed below would you prefer to fund the construction of a new Decatur Police Department building, critical to the future operations of the department?
An increase in the City's portion of the local property tax. The increase necessary would equal $3-$4 per month for a home valued at $100,000.
An increase in the local utility tax from 1.25% to 2%. The increase necessary would equal about $3.50 per month for an average utility bill.
The creation of a local gas tax of 3 cents per gallon. This would equal about 45 cents per fill-up for a car with a 15 gallon tank.
