On May 23, Alberta's chambers passed new resolutions at the
Alberta Chambers of Commerce's Annual Policy Session. Amongst the new policies
developed by our federation's community chambers is a new policy entitled Impacts of Significant Wage Increase.
This new policy addresses the Provincial Government's proposal to raise
Alberta's minimum wage to $15 per hour from its current rate of $10.20 per
hour.
On Friday, May 29, 2015, Lori Sigurdson, the Minister of
Jobs, Skills, Training, and Labour announced that consultations regarding a
minimum wage increase would take place in June. It is expected that
consultations will be complete by early July and the phased increases will take
effect starting October 1, 2015.
The ACC is looking to gather information on the impacts of
this minimum wage increase from Alberta's businesses. This survey will
provide us with a better understanding of the concrete effects of this change.
Moreover, we will take this information to the provincial government to ensure
that they fully understand its impacts.
Thank you for your time in completing this survey. Feel free
to forward this survey link to any other businesses in your community.
