Part 147 Rulemaking Survey
The FAA is gathering information to support a part 147 rulemaking that would provide for competency-based and dual-enrollment programs. To assist the agency in this effort, ATEC is facilitating the accompanying short survey of all current part 147 aviation maintenance technician schools.

We recommend the survey be completed by someone knowledgeable in curriculum development and implementation and competency-based education and training programs. An invitation to complete this survey was delivered to the designated primary contact for each part 147 certificated school. Recipients are asked to respond on behalf of their institution, or designate an alternate to respond on their behalf if appropriate. Institutions with multiple part 147 certificates should provide one submission for each location.

The survey addresses three areas: 1) the design of competency-based programs; 2) the implementation of competency-based programs; and 3) the extension of course offerings through dual enrollment programs.

Some questions seek information about the costs associated with program design, implementation and delivery. In cases where you can provide a general estimate of actual costs, the FAA would be most appreciative.

To facilitate further understanding of competency-based programs, ATEC has created a library of resources at http://www.atec-amt.org/competency-based-programs.html.
