APIASF 2018 Higher Education Summit Proposal
RequiredRequired Question(s)
Progress:

On June 20-21, 2018, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) will host its ninth annual Higher Education Summit around the theme, Institutionalizing Support for APIA Students, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

The objectives of the 2018 APIASF Higher Education Summit include:
  • Creating evidence-based recommendations for institutionalizing APIA access and persistence programs nationwide
  • Sharing research and data, scalable best practices, and successful initiatives to advance institutional capacity
  • Strengthening existing collaborations and developing partnerships to accelerate student access and success in higher education

Summit concurrent sessions must address one of the following focus areas:
  • Creating Buy-In: Institutional understanding of APIA college experiences is critical to addressing barriers in higher education. What strategies create and sustain institutional buy-in for programs that support APIA students?
  • Leveraging Data: Research and data are key tools for assessing APIA access and persistence programs. How are research and data leveraged to institutionalize and improve programs for APIA students?
  • Sustaining Impact: Federal AANAPISI grant funding is highly competitive and limited in duration. What practices ensure that institutional changes are sustained once federal AANAPISI grant funding expires?

Expectations for Concurrent Sessions:
  • Each concurrent session must consist of at least 2 presenters
  • Presenters must have at least 3-5 years of demonstrated facilitation experience (e.g., large group sessions, meetings, presentations, panels, workshops, teaching experience, etc.)
  • Presenters must have demonstrated knowledge of issues related to higher education access and retention policies, programs, and research pertaining to AAPI and other communities of color
  • Content of concurrent sessions must focus on at least one of the three topics, address the objectives of the 2018 APIASF Higher Education Summit, and engage participants in a discussion relevant to the concurrent session topic
  • Content of concurrent sessions must explicitly include at least one of the following: (1) the impact of the policy, program, or research through evidence-based data and/or (2) details how such initiative has been scaled or has the potential to be scaled in order to increase impact
  • At least 50% of the session should be used to facilitate an active dialogue with participants

Session Format: This year we are requesting proposals for 75 minute Concurrent Sessions.
