To give participants an immersive experience into the world of maritime and transportation our workshop will involve tours of industry worksites such as shipyards, marinas, docks and ports. These tours, while extremely interesting and informative, can also require significant amounts of walking as well as some climbing (i.e. into and out of ships/between the deck and below-deck compartments, etc.). Applicants should be ready for physical exertion. Appropriate dress (i.e. jeans/long pants, tennis shoes or work boots) and proper hydration is required. Many of these areas are outside and subject to the weather; we do not cancel tours due to weather events so some of our tours may be in rain or significant heat. Lastly, we cannot guarantee that all of the industry worksites we visit will be fully handicapped-accessible. Please type "YES" in the box below to acknowledge that you understand the physical nature of the daily tour portions of the Get SMART Summer Workshop.
