Help NAMI-NYS save NYS's inpatient psychiatric beds. Hospitals throughout the state have been mandated to have 30% of their beds available in case of another COVID surge. Many hospitals have disproportionately targeted psychiatric beds for elimination in order to meet the mandate. Some hospitals have totally eliminated their psychiatric beds and there is no guarantee that these beds will return. In fact, in many cases we fear that the beds are lost for good.

New York already has too few hospital beds to begin with and many people are struggling to access these vital services. For many, they are transferred to hospital far from where they live to receive these services. We also know that the lack of psychiatric beds is contributing to premature discharges.

NAMI-NYS is partnering with the NYS Nurses Association (NYSNA) to fight against this potentially disastrous situation. We need your help to save our psych beds. We need to hear your stories and experiences about accessing inpatient care in order to demonstrate that we already have a crisis of too few beds and how a further reduction of beds would be disastrous.

Thank you for taking this brief survey to share your experiences with accessing services.
