Board Participation Guidelines and Application to Serve on the Board

Required 1.

These Board Participation Guidelines will help you understand what is expected of you as a Director of this organization. The Board of Directors is the policy-making body of the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce. Our Board members represent a cross-section of the business and professional leadership of the community. You must have been a Boyne Chamber member for at least six months to qualify to serve on the Board. Each Director is very important to the Board, so an understanding of the responsibilities is important. These include:
1. Attendance and participation at a four-hour annual Planning Retreat to develop goals for the coming year. We expect this meeting will be held on a weekday afternoon in November or early December. 

2. Attendance at the Annual Meeting in January, when all Board members are sworn in and confirmed.
3. Attendance at each regular or special Board meeting, normally once a month, the third Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and usually adjourned by 10 a.m. Attendance requirements are set forth in the bylaws; missing three meetings in a year is grounds for being dropped from the board.
4. Attendance at approximately 50% of all Chamber-sponsored events, including Business After Hours and special events.
5. Promoting the Chamber at all times, and encouraging businesses to join the Chamber. A Board member should diligently help to promote the Chamber and its issues.
6. The Chamber takes public positions on issues affecting business that may be controversial. Board Members are expected to be knowledgeable and respect the Chamber's position on issues relating to business, once the Board has voted on it.
